相對于同容量的歐式箱變,美式箱變結構更加合理。因為歐式箱變是將變壓器與一般高壓電器設備同裝在一個金屬殼體內,造成變壓器室溫很高,散熱困難,影響出力;另一方面,歐式箱變采用普通高壓負荷開關和熔斷器、低壓開關柜,因此體積較大。美式箱變的結構不同于歐式箱變。在配置上,其低壓室、變電室、高壓室等均為目字型配置,但均為品字型配置。就結構而言,這種箱式變分為前、后兩部分,前部為高、低壓工作間隔,工作間隔內包括高低壓接線端、負荷開關操作手柄、無載調壓分節開關、插入式熔斷器、油位計等;后部為注油箱及散熱片,將變壓器繞組、鐵芯、高壓負荷開關、熔斷器放入變壓器油箱。
